Agricultural Lands Available for Lease

The Blue Ridge Parkway announces the availability for lease two agricultural parcels for pasturing livestock and for hay production located near Parkway milepost 229.3 at the intersection of the Blue Ridge Parkway and U.S. Route 21 in Alleghany County North Carolina. These parcels range in size from 9 acres to 12 acres. Agricultural lands along the Blue Ridge Parkway are leased under a Special Use Permit for a period not to exceed five years.

Leasing of these lands for agricultural use helps the National Park Service achieve its objective of maintaining the rural southern Appalachian farm scene. These lands will be available after August 1, 2008. The cost of leasing parkway agricultural lands is $13.50/acre for hay and pasture and $27/acre for crops. Lease fees are paid yearly in advance.

A list of lands available for lease and a copy of the Special Use Permit conditions may be picked up at the Blue Ridge Parkway, Plateau District office at Milepost 167 (Rocky Knob), or requested by mail from Tom Davis, Blue Ridge Parkway, 1670 Blue Ridge Parkway, Floyd, VA 24091. Those interested in leasing the above farmland following review of the Special Use Permit conditions, may obtain an application form from the same location listed above. To have an application mailed to you or for further information, please contact Tom Davis at 540-745-9663 or via email at G_Tom_Davis@nps.gov.
