FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway is a non-profit, volunteer organization that is dedicated to preserving, promoting and enhancing the Blue Ridge Parkway, a national treasure. FRIENDS programs focus on preservation, protection and education. FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, organized and existing under the laws of the State of North Carolina and the Commonwealth of Virginia, whose current principal business address for identification purposes is P.O. Environmental Conservation AwardsMountain Homes and FRIENDS Partner to Recognize Environmental Developers
These developers are demonstrating their commitment to conservation and concern for the land with deed easements, maintaining stream and water quality, providing habitat plants and wildlife in the areas of their properties, tree beautification projects, providing walking trails, green building and restoration of endangered species. These developers and their communities become models, setting an environmental standard. FRIENDS has approached some of these developers to establish a partnership that focuses on the mutual objectives of environmental stewardship. Development companies can help in any of the following ways.

FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway partnered with Mountain Homes magazine (a publication of Leisure Publishing Company) to award the first Environmental Conservation Awards to those special stewards of the land who met the criteria for judging the contest. Winners in three categories: communities/developments, environmental organizations, and individuals were announced in the fall 2007 issue of Mountain Homes.
