Humpback Rocks (MP 5.8)
James River & Otter Creek Activities (MP 60)James River & Kanawha Canal Lock Walk Meet a NPS Ranger on the back porch of the James River Visitor Center for the short walk to the restored lock #7 on the south bank of the James River. You will get a brief history of the James River and Kanawha Canal system and an explanation of how canal locks work.
Natural & Cultural Heritage Demonstrations NPS Rangers and/or volunteers present demonstrations of the natural and cultural history of the Southern Appalachians. Contact the James River Visitor Center at 434-299-5496 for specific times and topics of demonstrations.

Peaks of Otter Activities (MP 86)Nature Center Programs Stop by the new facility to talk with NPS Rangers or volunteers about the natural history of the Peaks of Otter area. Parkway staff will be available to answer questions and to present programs and demonstrations.
Fishing with a Ranger Kids ages 3 to 14 are invited to participate in this weekly fishing program. They provide the bait and tackle, you bring your own pole.
Kid Activities with a Ranger Come participate in a fun activity with a National Park Ranger.
Appalachian Cultural Demonstrations NPS Rangers and/or volunteer present demonstrations of the cultural history of the Southern Appalachians. Come by to visit and to talk. Demonstrations may include Appalachian doll-making, natural plant dyes, edible wild plants and woodworking. Contact the Peaks of Otter Visitor Center (540-586-4496) for specific times and locations of demonstrations. All programs unless otherwise noted are free and open to the public. |
