FRIENDS Boone/Blowing Rock Chapter

As the newest Chapter of FRIENDS, we are proud to report on our progress since our first steering committee meeting on June 8, 2010. We have selected our initial eight steering committee members, focusing on volunteer and fundraising coverage, for both Boone and Blowing Rock being represented. They are two uniquely different communities.

We have spent much of our time on creating awareness about our new Chapter with press releases, attending Parkway 75th Anniversary Festivals, July 4th. Parades, and various other music and craft festivals. So far we have signed up over fifty volunteers, including 15 new members of FRIENDS. In addition we have raised over $700 through donations and merchandise sales. We have recently completed new rack cards for our Chapter with the help of FRIENDS, Inc. staff.

We are focusing on a campaign for Corporate and local businesses that will begin in September and a major donors fund raising event toward the end of September or early October. We have the campus interface person for the FRIENDS, ASU Chapter as a member of our steering committee to help leverage fund raising and volunteer opportunities. We will be working closely together on projects and helping to provide recognition for student’s efforts in their Chapter.

Our Chapter will continue to explore opportunities for trail maintenance in conjunction with our local hiking club, and NPS employees, and are awaiting a project plan for additional work projects from NPS in the fall.

If you are interesting in volunteering with this chapter or being part of the steering committee, please contact Mike Kebelbeck at 828/295-6385.
