	Janet Wimmer Janet is a retired art teacher with 30 years of experience behind her. She enjoys painting still life and botanical designs. However, her primary focus is the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. She lives within walking distance of the Parkway and frequents its overlooks for inspiration. As a rule, she begins each of her painting upside down! She turns her inspiration photo upside down to begin painting the background on the canvas. Once that is established, she turns the canvas right-side-up to finish the piece. In describing her love of painting she says, "People are so busy they don't take time to really see what is around them. I want to make them see the sunlight, feel the breeze, smell the mountain air and rest in a moment of time." This is certainly accomplished through her unique style of artistry. In honor of the Blue Ridge Parkway's 75th Anniversary, Janet has vowed to create one painting a day for a year. Each piece of artwork will reflect the scenic beauty of the Parkway. She began this endeavor on September 1, 2009 and will continue through September 1, 2010. Each piece of artwork in her one-a-day series generally takes 3 -5 hours to complete. Each work of art is done in oil on an 11" x 14" or 12" x 16" canvas panels. Each is reasonably priced at $85 - a special price in honor of the Parkway's anniversary. Janet has generously agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of her artwork to FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway. A sample of Janet's vivid works of art... Supporting FRIENDS As mentioned above, a portion of the proceeds of every piece of artwork sold through 2010 will go to FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Janet will also be volunteering her time to teach a series of beginner painting workshops on the Parkway during the summer months.
